Skipper

Skipper is a young pegasus pony currently working as the first mate aboard the primary Zebra research team ship, under Captain Mizzen.

Born in the Cloud Empire, he followed his passion for the sea to Dapple Beach, and from there joined the Zebra Research Team.

Appearance

Skipper is a small pegasus colt with a spotted off-white and blue coat. He has blue hooves with curly long feathering. He's about average height for a teenage pony. He's neither a soarer or a songbird; rather as a member of a more aquatic community of pegasi he developed strong wings with a sort of oily layer to protect them in the water. His primary feathers are blue.

His mane is two tones of dark blue and curly. It's about chin length. His tail is a short poof. It has a sparkly look to it in the light, from sea salt.

His eyes are pale blue. Skipper is an introvert, and so often has a shy expression. However, when he's at sea with the crew of the Zebra research vessel, he's more open and happy looking. He wears a sailor hat, striped ribbon on his neck with a horseshoe fastener, and a blue bow on his tail.

His Cutiemark is two crossed red and yellow semaphore flags.

His ankle heart is white.

Personality

Skipper is normally pretty shy and keeps to himself. He prefers to be alone in nature than around other ponies and civilization. Being at sea is a compromise; he feels very comfortable around his crew, and feels at one with the sea when they're out sailing.

Biography

Skipper was born in Albatross Landing, the northernmost settlement in the Cloud Empire. Like the rest of the island's population, he lived his life close to the sea rather than the sky. He was taught to be a diver from an early age, and enjoyed it. However, his family moved to Cloudfort as the war began to heat up again. City life didn't agree with Skipper, and he became depressed and withdrawn. Eventually, he ran away from home and headed south to the warm coastal town Dapple Beach.

There, he became fascinated by the Zebra Research Team's ships. He hung around the bay watching them come and go, until Mizzen noticed him and offered to show him around one of the ships. Mizzen took a liking to him, and eventually offered him a job.

Skipper doesn't really care about the scientific aspect of their work, but he's very happy to do the tactile work of sailing and feel the sea breeze in his mane.

Notable relationships

• Mizzen: Lacking any family in Earth territory, Skipper thinks of Mizzen like a big brother as much as a captain. They're very close.
