Queen Sugar-Pearl Dusk

Queen Sugar-Pearl Dusk (sometimes shortened to Queen Dusk) is the current ruler of Unicornia. She lives in Castle Sweet, at the highest point of the unicorns' mountain homeland. A severe and calculating mare, Dusk has leveraged her special talent to control the Unicorn population as she sees fit. Currently, that means influencing the kingdom deeper into war with the Pegasi.

Appearance

Queen Dusk is a very tall older unicorn, with a similar build to canonical royal/princess ponies. Her coat is a dark, desaturated purple, with a darker cloudy marking on her flank and dark hooves. Her horn is very long. Her age shows on her face, with wrinkles beneath her eyes and sometimes at the corners of her mouth. She has dark eyeshadow and a thick upper lash line, with 3 pointed lower lashes that droop down slightly. Her eyes are magenta.

Her mane is 4 shades of purple/pink, in 3 parts: neat bangs that part around her horn, two large curls on either side of her face, and a high ponytail in the back. Her tail is one large curl that nearly reaches the ground. She wears a net of pearls over the ponytail, and individual pears scattered across her curls and tail.

She often wears ceremonial clothing, which consists of a veil draped over her head, a mantle made of black pegasus wings, and a fur-lined purple cloak.

Her Cutiemark is a large 8-pointed star, surrounded by smaller 4-pointed stars and circles.

Her ankle heart is dark purple.

Personality

As a member of the royal family, she was taught etiquette and a certain way a Queen should act. She is very regal and stern, but not outwardly cruel or unkind as it would make her look bad. Internally, she is very judgemental and mean.

Dusk is a unicorn supremacist, for lack of a better term. She wants unicorns to control the entirety of the continent, and to reign over Earth ponies as subjects.

Biography

Ancestry

Unicornia has been ruled by members of the Sweet family since the time of the Saint. She is one in a very long line of queens (and a handful of kings).

War tactics

The war between Unicornia and the Cloud Empire has stagnated in the last few years. Few battles have broken out on the borders, and there have been whispers of treaties or ceasefires passed between members of the Unicorn and Pegasus elite. Queen Dusk, intent on winning the war, is forced to do anything in her power to get the upper hoof. She is convinced that an alicorn is the only weapon that could turn the tide, and determines that Holy Steel is the only unicorn powerful enough to become one. Alicorn transformation requires intense stress and, according to her research, despair is the easiest way to achieve it. So she orders for Chalk Dust to be assassinated.

The assassination is botched, she doesn't die right away. However, to continue her original plan, Queen Dusk places an additional spell on her to keep her from waking up. Holy Steel looks to Dusk for guidance, in Chalk Dust's absence, thus allowing themself to be manipulated into deeper despair and eventually succumbing to the Curse, becoming Holy Nightmare. With her weapon secured, Queen Dusk can finally put a plan in motion to wipe out the pegasi for good and take control of the continent.

Which, obviously, doesn't work out.

Post-war

She will certainly be deposed. It will be up for debate whether to execute, banish, or imprison her.

Notable relationships

• Princess Marshmallow: Dusk is a cold mare, but she genuinely loves her daughter. She wants Marshmallow to see the world the same way she does and agree with her plans for Unicornia's future. They don't see eye-to-eye, no matter what she says, and this hurts Dusk's feelings.
• Holy Steel: She views Holy Steel as her most loyal subject, and feels almost maternally toward them. Despite this, Holy Steel is mostly just a weapon to her.
• Chalk Dust: She has nothing personally against Chalk Dust, but her plans for Holy Steel required her to get Chalk Dust out of the way somehow, hence the assassination attempt.
